The Rules for Bridal Jewelry
The dress may get the most attention before the wedding, but every detail of the bride's look is important on the big day. Too much jewelry, or not enough, can diminish the effect of the gown she has searched so far and wide for.
In the book "Town & Country Elegant Weddings" (Hearst Books), author Stacey Okun details "Five Jewelry Rules to Live By." The basic rules excerpted from the book are:
- Always take your wedding jewelry to the dress fitting.
- Make sure the jewelry doesn't compete with your gown.
- Don't wear too much. (If the dress has a scoop neck or sweetheart neckline, the necklace should predominate over the earrings. If the dress has a high neckline, a grander pair of earrings are in order.)
- Believe in the power of one stunning piece of jewelry.
- Comfort should be the most important factor. Don't wear a too-tight choker or pinching earrings.
