HAMPSTEAD — A local woman escaped with minor injuries after she became distracted by her GPS and rolled her vehicle on Wash Pond Road Thursday afternoon, police said.

Emergency personnel responded to the crash around 12:30 p.m. on Wash Pond Road just north of Emerson Avenue.

Police said their investigation found Greta McElvanna, 66, of Hampstead, was driving her 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee southbound on Wash Pond Road when she was distracted by looking at her GPS and went off the roadway on the southbound side.

Police said McElvanna hit a large rock, rolled her vehicle over and then struck a tree. The vehicle came to rest on its roof.

McElvanna, who was wearing a seatbelt, was still inside the vehicle when officers arrived. She was able to be removed through the door with help from fire personnel.

McElvanna suffered minor injuries and was transported to Parkland Medical Center in Derry by Trinity ambulance.
