ROCHESTER — A Somersworth woman was charged with reckless operation and other offenses after a crash Thursday morning that injured an unidentified adult passenger as well as herself.

Police officials said their investigation revealed Samantha Norton, 30, was driving her 2008 Vokswagen Passat Southeast on Blackwater Road at about 9:55 a.m. when she tried to pass another vehicle going in the same direction.

Norton lost control of the car on a corner and struck a tree, fence and rock, police officials said.

The driver and adult passenger were brought by emergency medical responders to Wentworth Douglass Hospital in Dover for care.

Rochester police charged Norton with operating after suspension, driving an unregistered car and reckless operation.

She was released on a summons and given a court date of Jan. 22 in 7th Circuit Court in Rochester.

The car was extensively damaged and had to be towed from the scene, police said.
