LACONIA — Fire Chief Ken Erickson said a caller’s quick report coupled with and a three-man crew on duty at the Weirs Station stopped a camper fire from spreading to two buildings just feet away.

Firefighters were called to the Winnipesaukee Motel, 350 Endicott St. North, shortly after 1 p.m. and found a burning camper with a screen porch sandwiched between a house and large storage building that also serves as the laundry for the business.

A caretaker said he was en route to Manchester when he got a call about the fire and hurried back to gain access to the basement of the home and shut-off the breaker providing electricity to the camper. He said the camper also used propane.

He’ said he just rented the camper to a man in need of a place to live but fire officials reported it was unoccupied at the time.

No injuries were reported.

“It would have been a different story if someone hadn’t spotted it so quickly,” Erickson said, as he surveyed the damage, limited to the camper.

The cause remains under investigation.
