BELMONT — Police have identified two Lakes Region men who died in a three-vehicle crash on the Fourth of July.

Brian Bennett, 37, of Tilton, the driver, was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. Michael Lima, 47, of Meredith, the passenger, died at the scene.

A black Labrador retriever that had been riding in the Toyota suffered severe internal injuries and also died.

Bennett’s 2007 Toyota Rav4 veered into the southbound lane of Route 106 Wednesday night and struck a 2016 Hyundai Veloster before colliding head-on with a heavy-duty Ford F-350 truck.

Officials said the chain reaction began when Bennett’s Toyota collided with the rear driver’s side of the Hyundai, which was driven by Timothy Lanza of Manchester.

As the Toyota spun out of control, it was struck by the Ford, driven by Laura Beebe of Belmont.

Beebe suffered serious lower leg and spine injuries and was taken to Concord Hospital for surgery, officials said.

Erin Malloy, a passenger in Beebe’s truck, and Lanza, who drove the Hyundai, were not injured, officials said.

Police have determined that speed was not a factor in the crash.
