Origin:
First chartered in 1766, this town was originally reserved for the private use of Governor Benning Wentworth. When John Wentworth succeeded his uncle as governor, one of his first acts was to grant the tract to a group of settlers, naming it Wentworth in his uncle's honor. ost of the new colonists came from Salisbury, Massachusetts. Wentworth is in the Baker River Valley near Carr Mountain.
More about Wentworth:
Just off Rte 25 in Wentworth, NH is one of the sweetest little spots for a refreshing summer dip. This swimming hole is adjacent to a town park. If you are with a local resident or staying at a local B&B like Hilltop Acres, you can park at the town picnic area lot. Otherwise, to keep it legal, you'll want to park nearby and walk the short distance. Wentworth restricts access but since they don't own the river, they can't control the swimming as long as you don't use their parking.
