Following establishment of New Hampshire, Governor Benning Wentworth regranted it as Stevenstown. It has also held the names Gerrishtown and New Salisbury, incorporating as Salisbury in 1768 after Salisbury, Massachusetts. Salisbury is the birthplace of Daniel Webster.
