Origin:
Part of a large plot of undivided land in the Pemigewasset Valley, this town was first named New Plymouth, after the original Plymouth Colony in Massachusetts. The grant for this town went to settlers from Hollis, all of whom had been soldiers in the Seven Years' War. Some had originally come from Plymouth, Massachusetts. Plymouth is the home of Plymouth State University.

More about Plymouth:
Plymouth is known for its focus on education through Plymouth State University.

If you love the beauty of covered bridges, you'll find one of the most picturesque nearby, the Smith Millenium Bridge, located just off Route 25. There are three other covered bridges located a short drive away.
