Origin:
For many years prior to its 1782 incorporation, this town was an unnamed parish of Chichester. Like Pittsburg in the north, Pittsfield was named for William Pitt, Prime Minister of England, and a great friend of the Colonies prior to the American Revolution. The town was settled byseveral families originally from Hampton.
More about Pittsfield:
The Town of Pittsfield, known as the "Gem of the Suncook Valley" and today still one of New Hampshire's loveliest rural areas, is a small historical/industrial community nestled in the heart of the Suncook Valley along the Suncook River.
