Origin:
First granted in 1753 to a group of settlers from Chester, New Hampshire, the town was known as New Chester. In 1837, the town was renamed in honor of Isaac Hill, a Democrat who served as governor, and as senator in President James Buchanan's administration. In 1941, the entire village of Hill was moved to higher ground to allow the original land to be used for a Merrimack River flood control project.

More about Hill:
Remains of the old town can still be found nearby. There are some foundations left as well as an old bridge and even sidewalks. A bit of hiking is required but worth the work!
