Origin:
First established as Hampton's Third Parish, this town received its grant as an independent town in 1726. Located on the Taylor River, Hampton Falls provided water power for Weare's mills. Meschech Weare, a descendant of the mill owners, was New Hampshire's first president, later called governor, in 1776. Hampton Falls was the birthplace of Ralph Adams Cram, a well-known architect, who designed the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York and chapels at West Point and Exeter Academy.
More about Hampton Falls:
There are a number of antique shops in Hampton Falls, including the Barn Antiques at Hampton Falls, Antiques One, Antiques at Hampton Falls and Antiques New Hampshire, all located on Lafayette Road. There are also a number of apple and berry orchards tucked beside old farmhouses throughout town.
A historic marker in town notes the spot where George Washington stopped to shake hands with several soldiers of the Revolution on October 31, 1789 on his way to Portsmouth.
