The Harbor Arts Museum is temporarily housed at the home of the Portsmouth Music Association on Albany Street in Portsmouth. The antique instruments and musical memorabilia currently on display are from the private collection of Richard Smith.
Visitors to the Museum will see playbills and posters from the turn-of-the century and on up through the decades. Town bands, fairground shows, traveling revues they are all represented here. There are posters for singers on their way to fame, and for others who simply knew one small moment in the sun. Antique bugles, old-time songbooks, photographs and other items are also showcased. The focal point of the museum is a piano made in Concord, NH in the 1800s, called a Standup Grand. It celebrates the musical history of New Hampshire craftsmen.
