Blues man Popa Chubby reels ‘em in with ‘Catfish’ at Tupelo on Saturday

Popa Chubby is blazing a path to Tupelo Music Hall in Derry for a Saturday night concert.

DERRY — Popa Chubby is “The Catfish,” and he’s got his own bait.

He sits alone at the river’s edge, guitar in hand, serenading the waters, and all the while knowing if the song is sweet and the wind is right, the catfish will bite.

A big fish in the blues-rock pond, he sings on the title track of his latest album: “I’m the biggest fish you know, ask anybody. I’m the catfish and what I say goes.”

The take-no-prisoners ax man swims into Tupelo Music Hall, 30 A St., for an 8 p.m. concert Saturday. The show will feature tunes from the 2016 “Catfish” release as well as standouts from his 25-year music career.

Tickets are $25 to $30. For details, visit www.tupelomusichall.com or call 437-5100.
