CONCORD — A city man out on bail after allegedly attacking police officers at Concord Hospital Monday was arrested Wednesday after police said he broke into an occupied apartment, threw property off the porch and choked a dog.
Police were called to a multi-apartment building at 32 Cherry St. just before 3 p.m. Wednesday for a burglary in progress and arrested Irakoze Ildephones, 28.
According to a news release, a resident reported Ildephones, dressed only in a bathrobe, had pounded on apartment doors before taking off the robe, climbing to a second-floor porch and smashing through a glass storm door.
The two occupants of the apartment — who told police they did not know Ildephones — fled to their car, locking themselves inside.
Officers saw Ildephones vandalizing the apartment, throwing things off the porch and stomping on broken glass, police said. He threw shards of glass at the officers, police said.
Police went into the building and used a Taser while subduing and handcuffing Ildephones, police said. He was taken to a medical facility for treatment of minor injuries and then to jail, police said.
Police said that while in the apartment Ildephones had assaulted and choked the residents’ golden retriever. The dog was taken to an emergency clinic and is expected to recover, police said.
Ildephones was charged with felony cruelty to animals, burglary, and reckless conduct and misdemeanor counts of breach of bail, indecent exposure, simple assault and two counts of criminal mischief, police said.
Ildephones was out on bail on charges of disorderly conduct, criminal threatening, resisting arrest and attempted simple assault in an incident early Monday at Concord Hospital, police said.
In that incident, officers investigating an unrelated stabbing about 1:30 a.m. were subject to a verbal rant from Ildephones in a hospital hallway before he clenched his fists and charged at officers, police said. He was arrested after a brief struggle, police said.
Ildephones was held in the Merrimack County jail on $15,000 cash bail pending arraignment Thursday in Merrimack County Superior Court.
