DUNBARTON — A local man has been arrested after police say he attempted to strangle a family member at his Dunbarton home.
Dwayne Demers, 46, of Mansion Road has been charged second-degree assault, a Class B felony, and domestic violence assault, a Class A misdemeanor, following the alleged incident on Sunday.
The victim, who sustained injuries to his neck and face, is an adult male family member of Demers, but his identity is being withheld at the request of the family, said Dunbarton Police Sgt. Chris Remillard.
According to police, the incident stemmed from a verbal argument that led to Demers punching the victim several times and attempting to forcefully remove him from a vehicle.
Demers, who has been ordered to have no contact with the victim, was originally held on $5,000 cash bail at the Merrimack County Department of Corrections. He was arraigned in Merrimack County Superior Court Monday and then released on $10,000 personal recognizance bail.
