RAYMOND — “Sorry I hit your car. Here is $50.”
The driver who wrote that message on a free car wash coupon left on Megan Linehan’s 2000 Acura along with 50 bucks last week will likely face charges, Raymond police said Sunday.
Linehan, a 17-year-old Timberlane Regional High School senior, was working after school Thursday at Salon 27 in Raymond when she learned from another business owner that someone struck the front of her car in the parking lot.
The driver left the anonymous note with the cash before leaving the scene of the crash in the Cozy Corners Plaza on Route 27.
Linehan said she appreciated the apology note, but quickly realized the $50 wouldn’t be nearly enough to repair the dents, scratches and headlight, which could cost close to $1,000.
“A free car wash, $50, and the front of my car is dented,” said the Sandown teen, who works as a receptionist at Salon 27.
Raymond police Cpl. Brandon Dyrkacz said Sunday the driver of the vehicle turned herself in to police on Sunday.
“No one is in custody right now, but charges are likely forthcoming,” Dyrkacz said. He said he couldn’t release any more information about the driver due to the ongoing status of the investigation.
Linehan said she arrived in the parking lot about 3 p.m. Thursday, parked her car and went inside to work. She was informed about the accident about 3:50 p.m.
She didn’t know what to think when she first noticed the note.
“I was kind of hoping that they would have given a number or something. Even if they didn’t want to go through insurance I would have been able to work with them, but they didn’t leave anything like that,” she said.
Raymond Police Chief Michael Labell said last week a witness told police the driver was a female in a white Honda SUV.
“We are thrilled that the person came forward,” said Megan’s mother, Heather Linehan, on Sunday. “Police called us and said the driver has insurance, so we can go through the insurance for the repair work.”
