PORTSMOUTH — A man was arrested Sunday night after allegedly stealing a U-Haul filled with gear from the New Hampshire Film Festival.

Portsmouth Police Sgt. Christopher Roth said Monday morning that a film festival employee reported the incident at about 7:30 p.m. Police caught up with Billy Cotter, 35, at Chapel and Daniel streets.

Roth said Cotter told police he intended to take the U-Haul to Kittery, Maine.

"As we were talking to him, he basically explained that he was on his way to work in Kittery and he decided to take the truck," Roth said.

Cotter was charged with unauthorized use of a propelled vehicle and was taken to the Rockingham County jail.
