Serious crash throws passenger from car

November 24. 2017 4:33AM

MERRIMACK — An unidentified driver has been arrested and a passenger flown to a Boston hospital following a serious one-car crash in Merrimack Thursday morning.

Police officials said the car rolled over at least twice on Boston Post Road near Seaverns Bridge Road.

The passenger was thrown from the car in the crash, which occurred about 4:30 a.m., according to police officials.

The orange sports coupe was heavily damaged and the crash sheared branches off some nearby trees, officials said.

Initially, there was only believed to be one occupant in the car but Merrimack officers found the driver of the car walking down the road and arrested him.

As a precaution, the driver was taken to a local hospital to be assessed, officials said.

Merrimack Police Lt. Dean Killkelley said the passenger was unconscious prior to being flown by helicopter to Boston.

The investigation continues, but officials said speed and perhaps alcohol were factors in the crash.

Charges and bail conditions for the driver would be finalized when local courts open today, officials added.
