LAWRENCE, Mass. — A New Hampshire woman was listed in stable condition Sunday after being shot while in a parked car in Lawrence, Mass., late Saturday night.

Lawrence Police Chief James Fitzpatrick said police responded to a McDonald’s restaurant on Swan Street in Methuen, Mass., around 10:43 p.m. Saturday to investigate a report of two women who had been shot in Lawrence and drove to the eatery looking for help.

Police said a 20-year-old woman from Sandown and a 19-year-old woman from Haverhill, Mass., told them they were shot while sitting in a parked car on Berkeley Street in Lawrence. The women told police a silver BMW 4-door sedan, operated by a man wearing a ski mask and gray hooded sweatshirt, pulled up to vehicle they were sitting in and opened fire, hitting both women.

According to police the Sandown woman was shot in the leg and taken to a local hospital by ambulance. The woman from Haverhill was shot in the head and flown by medical helicopter to a Boston hospital.

Police said both women, whose names were not released, were listed in stable condition Sunday.

Lawrence police do not believe this was a random act of violence.

Anyone with any information on this incident or who may have been in the area in Berkeley Street on Saturday evening and saw anything suspicious is asked to call the Lawrence police department at 978-794-5900.
