LONDONDERRY — A mother of two convicted in a high-profile abuse case is facing new charges alleging she posed as her own attorney in a scheme to get her then-boyfriend to marry her — though she was already married.

Samantha Grenier, 28, was arrested Friday by Londonderry police at the State Prison for Women in Goffstown, where she is currently incarcerated.

“Samantha created a fake email address to mimic her attorney’s email address to try to convince this boyfriend that it was perfectly acceptable to marry her because it would help get her leniency in her sentencing in the child abuse case in Manchester,” Londonderry police detective Christopher Olson said. “(The boyfriend) thought she was divorced.”

Last fall, Grenier was sentenced to 15 to 30 years in prison for her role in the child abuse. Police described living conditions for the children of Samantha and James Grenier as “deplorable,” while the prosecution referred to their Quirin Street apartment as a “hell hole.”

In November 2016, the couple’s then-4-year-old son was found naked and harnessed to a bunk bed under a blanket that smelled of human waste. The daughter, 2 at the time, was found shivering and naked in a crib, smeared with human waste.

While out on bail, police say Grenier and her boyfriend were married by a justice of the peace on April 18 at Londonderry Town Hall.

Grenier was charged Friday with felony counts of bigamy and falsifying physical evidence, as well as a misdemeanor count of tampering with public or private records.

The Hillsborough County Attorney’s Office discovered the alleged deception during their child abuse investigation and contacted Londonderry police.

Grenier refused the services of a bail commissioner and was to be arraigned on the new charges Tuesday.
