2004 Granite State Olympians

The men and women on this page are headed to Greece with aspirations of winning a gold medal for their country and bragging rights to the title "Best in the World". These athletes with ties to New Hampshire make up only a small portion of the athletes that will represent a multitude of countries in Athens for the 2004 Olympics that begin on August 13, but they hope to make a big impact.
Over the course of the sixteen days of competition, we will be keeping track of the events each of these athletes participate in and posting the results below.


	Joanne Dow Birthdate: March 19, 1964 Event: Track and Field: Race Walk NH Connection: Born in Manchester. Attended UNH. Lives in Bedford. Previous Olympics: none Note: Dow was actually the runner-up for the Olympic Trials

Must compete in repechage on August 17 to advance. August 17: Finished 1^st in the Men's Quadruple Sculls Repechage Heats. Must compete in the semfinals on August 19 to advance to the finals. August 19: Finished 5^th in the Men's Quadruple Sculls Semifinals. Will compete in Final B on August 21 for places 7-12 August 21: Finished 5^th in the Men's Quadruple Sculls Final B. That gives the United States an overall ranking of 11^th

August 22: Finished 6^th in the Women's Quadruple Sculls Final A.

	Laura Gerraughty Birthdate: July 29, 1983 Event: Track and Field: Shotput NH Connection: Born in Nashua and attended Nashua High School Previous Olympics: none August 18: Finished 27^th in the Women's Shot Put Qualifying Round. Did not advance to finals.

	Tyler Hamilton Birthdate:March 1, 1971 Event: Cycling: Time Trial, Road Race NH Connection: Attended the Holderness School Previous Olympics: 2000 August 14: Finished 18^th in the Men's Road Race August 18: Won a gold medal in the Men's Time Trial

Will compete in Final B on August 19 for places 7-12. August 19: Finished 4^th in the Men's Four Final B. That gives the United States an overall ranking of 10^th place.

	Adam Nelson Birthdate: July 7, 1975 Event: Track & Field: Shot Put NH Connection: Attended Dartmouth Previous Olympics: 2000 August 18: Finished 1^st in the Men's Shot Put Qualifying Round. Will advance to finals. August 18: Won a silver medal in the Men's Shot Put.

	Darius Songaila Birthdate: February 14, 1978 Event: Basketball NH Connection: Attended New Hampton Prep Previous Olympics: 2000 He will be competing for Lithuania. August 15: Had 7 points in Lithuania's 78-73 defeat of Angola in the Men's Preliminaries - Group B. August 17: Had 9 points in Lithuania's 98-90 defeat of Puerto Rico in the Men's Preliminaries - Group B. August 19: Had 13 points in Lithuania's 98-76 defeat of Greece in the Men's Preliminaries - Group B. August 21: Had 7 points in Lithuania's 94-90 defeat of the United States in the Men's Preliminaries - Group B. August 23: Had 10 points in Lithuania's 100-85 defeat of Australia in the Men's Preliminaries - Group B. August 26: Had 10 points in Lithuania's 95-75 defeat of China in the Men's Quarterfinals.
