Olympic Gold Medalist Hannah Kearney was born in Hanover on February 26, 1986 and grew up in nearby Norwich, VT. She was on skis at the age of two, coming up through the Ford Sayre Program and later becoming a part of Nick Preston's Black and Blue Trail Smashers Team at Waterville Valley. She is a graduate of Hanover High School where she played several sports and even led both her soccer and track teams to state championships.

Kearney was only sixteen when she won the Eastern and Junior U.S. Championship moguls title and the Junior World Championship moguls and duals gold medals. The following year, in 2003, she won both titles a second time. At seventeen, in her rookie season as a pro, she won two competitions and by 2005 became a moguls World Champion.

A few difficult years followed. First, her Olympic debut at the 2006 Torino games left her with a disappointing 22nd place finish. In early 2007 she tore her ACL during training and was knocked out of competition for the rest of the 2006-2007 season. After recovering from surgery, she returned for the 2007-2008 season only to end up with a concussion after only three races. She rebounded and pulled off an incredible season with three World Cup wins.

In December 2009, Hannah was at Steamboat Ski Resort in Colorado for the U.S. Olympic Trials. She won the event, cementing her place on the U.S. Ski Team. In Vancouver, she entered the qualifying round with a score of 25.96, the best qualifying score. This placed her last to ski and she won gold with a score of 26.63, bumping Canadian Jennifer Heil to second place on her home soil. This also made her the first American to win a Gold Medal during the Vancouver Olympics.

In the 2010-2011 season she earned five World Cup wins and took the silver at the World Championships by a slim margin. Her score was 24.31, while the first place winner, Jennifer Heil, had a score of 24.35.

Hannah will be competing in the 2014 Olympics from February 7-23, 2014 in Sochi, Russia. Please stay tuned for our coverage of the Olympics and the Olympians competing from New Hampshire.

Kearney applied for admission into Hanover's Dartmouth College. She was accepted into the prestigious Ivy League school and started classes in the spring of 2011. The Olympian also enjoys hiking, biking and knitting.
