Christopher was born Christopher Lowell Madden in Anchorage, Alaska. He was raised by middle-class parents in the seacoast community of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. It was his parents (his father was a carpenter) that planted the seed of home decorating and design in Christopher. But he left home at the age of 9 to join the Southern California Boys Choir, where he played until he was 17.
Lowell tried his hand at acting during the 70's and performed in various stage shows in Boston, New York and other locations across the country. He even worked as a creative director with Matrix Essentials, a hair-products company. With his mantra, "You Can Do It" firmly in mind, he opened a home arts center in Chagrin Falls, Ohio in 1992. He sought to encourage others to take charge of their lives and help them solve their design issues. It was during this time that he began to produce a television pilot for the Discovery Channel. The pilot led to his show, Interior Motives with Christopher Lowell, which soon earned high ratings and developed a cult following. He followed it up with The Christopher Lowell Show.
His company, Christopher Lowell Enterprises, LLC is the parent to a production division, Christopher Lowell Productions Co. and a design division, Christopher Lowell, Inc. The design division has launched a designer paint line, furniture and home accessories and more recently, a line of office furniture and accessories for Office Depot.
Lowell most recent show, Work That Room with Christopher Lowell began airing on the Fine Living Network in September 2008.
