First Ascent of Mount Washington
Pinkham's Grant, NH
Marker Number: 11

Description: Darby Field, a New Hampshire settler, accomplished this feat in 1642 from a southerly approach. Partly guided by Indians and with only primitive equipment at his disposal, he is thus alleged to be the originator of all Mount Washington ascensions.
Location: Located on the east side of Route 16 just north of the Jackson-Pinkham's Grant boundary line.
