New Hampshire is one of the best places in the world to witness the brilliant crimsons and golds of fall. To help visitors decide when to take a tour of the countryside, NewHampshire.com will publish weekly updates on how the fall colors are progressing during the fall foliage season.

Best time to see foliage?

The foliage peaks at different times in different parts of the state. Generally, the best times to view the fall colors are near the end of September in the far north, the beginning of October in the White Mountain region, and the middle of October in the south.

The Merrimack Valley is not yet at peak conditions this week, but you'll splashes of color in some areas. This weekend your journey might take you to Manchester's McIntyre Ski Area to celebrate their inaugural N.H. Oktoberfest and this will mean - as we often say - take the backroads in and out of town to see the best of the foliage. If you are ambitious and you have a designated driver, you can probably include two events in a weekend day. The Great New England Fall Craft Fair will be held at the Hampshire Dome in Milford. This large craft fair will feature more than 175 craftspeople. And Halloween is not the only holiday coming up. But let's not talk about that. We'll take you on the journey. There is plenty to see along the way should you be inclined to check out some antiques, boutiques, pumpkin patches and farm stands. Get a pumpkin on your way back! From McIntyre Ski Area you will want to head South on I-93 to I-293W/NH 101W. Take the exit for Route 101A and turn left on Route 13S. From there take a left onto Emerson Road to the Hampshire Dome. Milford itself offers all kinds of character (and some colorful trees, especially along the Souhegan River.
