NHIAA Roundup: Frittenburg earns shutout as Kennett girls win showdown

A battle of Division II unbeatens played out to the Kennett High field hockey team’s favor as it downed Derryfield School of Manchester 2-0 on Tuesday in Conway. Katherine Hawkes and Jaelin Cummings scored a goal each to push the Eagles to 7-0 while the Cougars dropped to 7-1.

It was the first time the Kennett was held under four goals in a game all season, but it didn’t matter. Goalie Hannah Frittenburg (four saves) and the Kennett defense posted their sixth shutout of the season.

Olivia Bollengier made two saves in net for Derryfield, which had a 6-5 edge in shots.

Gilford 4, Franklin 0: In Franklin on Monday, Bri Salanitro’s two goals sparked the Golden Eagles (4-2). Reese Clark and Allison Carr also scored for Gilford. Franklin is 0-6.

Boys’ soccer

Trinity 8, Monadnock 0: In Swanzey, Dom DiZillo, Ethan Frenette and Colby Barker each posted two-goal efforts to lead the Pioneers’ romp. Jack Hudson and Ethan Eichmann also scored for Trinity (8-0) while Anthony DiZillo earned the shutout in net. Monadnock fell to 1-6.

Plymouth 7, Kennett 1: In Plymouth, three players took care of the scoring for the Bobcats (5-2) in their rout of the Eagles (0-7-1). Devlin Costa posted a hat trick for Plymouth, which had a 2-0 lead at halftime thanks to a pair of Costa scores. Stine Williams and Yago Gonzalez each had a pair of scores to complete the Bobcats’ effort. Ethan Clay-Storm had the lone tally for Kennett.

Girls’ soccer

Nashua North 2, Goffstown 1: In Nashua, Ari Dumaine and Emilee Deleo pushed across a goal apiece to help North improve to 2-4. Goffstown (3-3-1) had Maddie Proulx go for her first goal of the season in the loss.

Merrimack 3, Manchester Memorial 2: In Manchester, the Tomahawks picked up their third straight win with goals from Abby Morgan, Lindsey Erickson and Riley Streeper. Morgan added an assist to go with her goal. The Crusaders had a 2-1 at one point thanks to scores from Marley Sullivan and Aly Veilleux. Merrimack improved to 4-2 while Memorial dropped to 2-4.

Bishop Brady 11, Monadnock 0: In Swanzey, six players scored goals en route to a fourth consecutive win for the Green Giants (7-1). Sheridan Brummett took part in nine Bishop Brady goals as she scored four and assisted on five. Adrienne Brummett was the other multi-goal scorer with her hat trick while Hannah Hicks, Jane Bradley, Sarah Sponenberg and Hayleigh O’Connor netted one goal apiece. Monadnock slipped to 0-6.

Volleyball

Campbell 3, Hillsboro-Deering 0: In Litchfield, four players had at least two aces as the Cougars (3-1) got back in the column with the sweep. Meghan Gibbons had four aces with five kills for Campbell while Caedran Sullivan posted nine kills with two aces and two digs. Mallory Reczko added five kills and two aces. Hillsboro-Deering fell to 0-5.

Trinity 3, Mascoma Valley 2: In Manchester on Monday, the Pioneers (2-3) alternated wins with the Royals before taking the decisive fifth set 15-8. Josie Zelensky topped the Trinity’s contributions with 13 service points, nine aces, four kills and three blocks. Taylor Hasselbach also proved vital with 14 digs, nine service points, four aces and five kills. Mascoma slipped to 1-3.

Bedford 3, Keene 0: In Keene on Monday, Bedford (4-1) held Keene (0-7) under 14 points in each game on the way to a sweep. Ari DeBenedetto and Lacey Mercure each had three aces for Keene while Lily Pierannunzi had two kills.
