Tom Brady went 12-for-18 for 102 yards in one half of work in the New England Patriots’ 25-14 loss to the Carolina Panthers in an NFL preseason game on Friday night in Charlotte, N.C.

The Panthers led from the start, taking a 9-3 lead on the third of four Graham Gano field goals on the last play of the first half.

They extended the advantage on quarterback Taylor Heinicke’s 1-run run in the third quarter, another Gano field goal, and Garrett Gilbert’s 6-yard TD pass to Mose Frazier.

The Patriots’ scoring came on field goals of 27 and 52 yards by Stephen Gostkowski and a 2-yard run by Mike Gillislee in the fourth quarter.

Gillislee carried 10 times for a team-leading 35 yards. Pats backup QB Brian Hoyer was 16 for 24, for 109 yards.

Brady’s trainer on the plane

Brady’s personal trainer, Alex Guerrero, flew on the New England Patriots’ team plane to Charlotte on Thursday before Friday’s preseason game against the Carolina Panthers, according to multiple reports.

The trip to Charlotte is the team’s first road trip of the season after it played the first two preseason games at home.

Guerrero’s presence on the plane marks a departure from the end of last season, when various reports said Guerrero was not permitted to fly with the team.

As part of an extensive story about friction within the organization, ESPN reported in January that Guerrero — who also works with Patriots players and close friends of Brady like tight end Rob Gronkowski and wideout Julian Edelman — had become a source of tension between Brady and head coach Bill Belichick.

The report called Guerrero a “divisive force in the building,” and said Belichick restricted Guerrero’s access to the team’s sideline on game days.

ESPN reported Friday that Guerrero has been a “regular presence” in the team’s locker room recently.

Guerrero and Brady are business partners at the TB12 Sports Therapy Center, which is situated at Patriot Place outside Gillette Stadium. They have published the book the TB12 Method together, and Brady has relied almost exclusively on Guerrero’s methods as his career has reached its latter stages.
