Sam, Molly and Oda Mae return in musical version of ‘Ghost’August 22. 2018 1:45PM
MEREDITH — The penny. That pottery wheel. Those shrieking, shadows ... all iconic pieces of the 1990 movie classic “Ghost,” a supernatural love story and murder mystery featuring Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg.
What’s not to love?
“Ditto,” says the Winnipesaukee Playhouse, which presents a stage version of the tale of devotion, death and one very reluctant (and funny) psychic.
Bruce Joel Rubin, who also wrote the screenplay for the film, penned the musical. The production uses a book and lyrics by Dave Stewart and Glen Ballard.
The show recreates nostalgic moments from the film, including a version of the song made famous by the Righteous Brothers — the wrenchingly longing “Unchained Melody.”
“Ghost the Musical” features returning stage favorites Mallory Kay Newbrough and Michael Luongo, both seen in the Winnipesaukee Playhouse hit production of “Cabaret,” as well as actors new to the Winnipesaukee Playhouse stage, including Nick Moulton and Tiffany Reneé Thompson.
The show is helmed by the playhouse’s artistic director, Neil Pankhurst.
“‘Ghost the Musical’ will take you on a heartbreakingly romantic journey which at times will have the most stoic humans in tears; although ultimately the audience will be uplifted by the positivity to be found in the human spirit,” Pankhurst said.
The show runs through Sept. 1 at the Playhouse stage, 33 Footlight Circle.
Tickets range from $20 to $34 and are available at winnipesaukeeplayhouse.org or by calling 279-0333.
Show times are Mondays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., with 2 p.m. matinees today and Monday, Aug. 27.
