Matthew Paradis of Hooksett shot a 1-over-par 73 on Monday and was tied for 46th after the first round of the 2018 U.S. Amateur at Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, Calif.
Trevor Phillips of Inman, S.C., and Daniel Hiller of New Zealand each shot 4-under 68 to tie for the lead while Isaiah Salinda of South San Francisco was a shot back at 69.
After carding pars on the first two holes, Paradis knocked in a birdie putt on the par-3 3rd then parred five of the next six holes to make the turn at 36.
However, Paradis, who won the 115th New Hampshire Amateur Championship last month, double-bogeyed the par-3 12th and had bogeys on the par-5 14th and par-4 18th. The Concord Country Club member did finish on a bit of a high note, though, by notching birdies on 16 and 17.
Paradis, a junior at Southern New Hampshire University, was scheduled to tee off at 7:30 a.m. PST today.
