Pedestrian hit by box truck in Derry, airlifted to Boston

DERRY — A man in his late 20s or early 30s was airlifted to a Boston hospital to be treated for serious injuries after he was struck by a box truck in the area of 161 Rockingham Road Thursday afternoon, according to Lt. Robert Smith of the Derry Police Department.

Smith said the accident took place at 3:51 p.m. The victim was first transported to the helipad behind Parkland Medical Center, where he was transferred to Boston MedFlight and flown to Tufts Medical Center in Boston.

Police had not identified the victim or the company that owns the box truck Thursday afternoon.

The site of the accident was blocked off from traffic while authorities investigated.

Traffic was rerouted to Berry Road and South Range Road, Smith said.
