TAMWORTH — The Barnstormers Theatre opens its production of Agatha Christie’s thriller “And Then There Were None” Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Bob Shea, artistic director of the Barnstormers and director of this murder mystery, said he considers the play one of Christie’s best.

“It’s a true masterpiece of dramatic construction, with a growing sense of dread and tension that keeps the audience guessing until the very end,” he said

The story weaves around 10 strangers who are summoned to a remote island. They each come with a wicked past they’re unwilling to reveal and a secret that will seal their fate. As the weather turns and the group is cut off from the mainland, a sinister plot to seek revenge is revealed.

“In writing the stage version of her most successful and darkest novel during the Second World War, Christie responded to the mood of the times by introducing a more positive ending, different from the novel,” She said. “The play was a smash hit in the West End and on Broadway, and we are thrilled to be bringing the show to the Barnstormers’ stage.”

It will run through Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Tamworth Village playhouse. Show times are Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., with matinees at 2 p.m. Saturdays, as well as some Sundays at 5 p.m.

The cast includes Dale Place, Bob Bates, Jean Mar Brown, Doug Shapiro, Madeleine Maby, Robert St. Laurence, Buddy Haardt, George F. Piehl, Jordan Reeves, Anne-Marie Cusson and William R. Johnston.
