Nh Veterans Notes: Legion centennial to be featured at the races

The New Hampshire Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America welcomed U.S. Navy Capt. David S. Hunt, commander of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, as guest speaker at the summer luncheon held at the Eagle Mountain House & Golf Club in Jackson June 23. Hunt has served on the USS Daniel Boone (SSBN 629), the USS Bluefish (SSN 675) and other ships. He was also assigned to Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) as the military deputy for shipyard operations until assuming the command of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard on July 29, 2016. He oversees operations in New England and at a detachment in San Diego. (Military Officers Association of America)

LOUDON — The American Legion’s centennial celebration will get some special attention at the NASCAR race weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon from July 20-22.

During opening ceremonies on Friday, July 20, at approximately 1:30 p.m., an American Legion color guard will present both the American and Canadian national colors during the singing of both national anthems.

Also present for this event will be the national organization’s Laura Edwards, associate editor of The American Legion Magazine.

All New Hampshire Legionnaires, Auxiliary members and Sons of the American Legion are invited to this opening ceremony and the races being held that weekend.
