Majestic Theatre pays a call to the Chicken RanchJuly 11. 2018 2:17PM
DERRY — This happy-go-lucky view of small-town vice and statewide political “side-stepping” centers on the Chicken Ranch, a long-running brothel whose time is at an end.
Governors, senators, mayors, and even victorious college football teams frequent Miss Mona’s cozy bordello, until a Puritan watchdog focuses his television cameras and his righteous indignation on the institution.
“Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” — famously portrayed in a 1980s movie version that starred Dolly Parton, Burt Reynolds, Dom DeLuise, Jim Nabors and Charles Durning —gets a local staging by director Carole Neveaux of Concord and musical director A. Robert Dionne of Manchester in a Majestic Theatre production.
The song-and-dance story is based on a book by Larry L. King and Peter Masterson, with music and lyrics by Carol Hall. The cast includes Jonathan Kaplan, Michele Bossie, Ernis Bass, Brett W. Mallard and Steven Koch.
Show times are 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, July 13-14 and 20-21, and this Sunday at 2 p.m. at The Derry Opera House, 29 West Broadway.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for seniors 65 and above. The show is rated PG-13. Tickets can be purchased by calling the box office at 669-7469 or visiting majestictheatre.net.
