LINCOLN — With more than 30 breweries offering upward of 100 selections, the “ultimate craft-beer event in the mountains” returns Saturday to Loon Mountain Resort.

Sponsored by the Western White Mountains Chamber of Commerce, the New England Brewfest is in its 14th year overall and third consecutive at Loon. It is one of the longest-running events of its kind in New Hampshire, said Kim Pickering, the chamber’s executive director.

She said that in addition to the libations, attendees will have a variety of snack and food choices available, and there will be plenty of music too, with the Jonathan Sarty Band as the headliner.

“We invite you to join us for a great time to kick off summer at the New England Brewfest,” said Pickering, adding that “there’s no better place to enjoy great beer with friends than a picturesque mountain setting.”

The beer at the Brewfest will come from both near and far, with the Woodstock Inn Brewery, which is located just west of Lincoln, bringing four beers, among them the newly-released “Moody Brew IPA.”

The brainchild of Daniel Moody, a brewer and a cellarman at Woodstock Inn Brewery, Moody Brew boasts “mandarin orange, pineapple and strawberry tropical hop vapors,” said Moody, who came up with the recipe earlier his year and put it into commercial production in April.

Moody Brew is already among the Woodstock Inn Brewery’s most popular offerings, he said, and, nationally, it reflects an increasingly popular type of IPA, or India Pale Ale, known as New England style.

The style is characterized by a haziness in clarity, because the beer is unfiltered; a smooth mouth feel; and by strong aromas and taste, he said.

Although it contains only the four basic ingredients of beer — hops, barley, water and yeast — Moody Brew creates citrus flavors by tweaking the hops, Moody explained, adding that you can “almost” confuse the beer, because of its smell, with “a glass of orange juice.”

Moody said being able to showcase a beer with his name on it at a regional beer festival was something he “never imagined.” He was proud to have Woodstock Inn Brewery choose his beer for the New England Brewfest, joining Mosaic Papaya, a pale ale with less hops than Moody Brew; Pig’s Ear Brown Ale; and the Lemon-Blueberry Pale Ale, which actually does contain essences of those fruits, said Garrett Smith, the brewery’s sales director.

“We’re just pleased and honored to be at the New England Brewfest again,” said Smith. In 2004, Scott Rice, who owns the Woodstock Inn Brewery, was a co-founder of the Brewfest, which began in the parking lot across Main Street from his business.

Other breweries set to participate in the 2018 New England Brewfest at Loon Mountain Resort are: Angry Orchard Hard Cider, Backyard Brewery, Bad Lab Brewing Co., Bantam Modern American Cider, Canterbury Aleworks, Champlain Brewing Co., Cisco Brewery, Clown Shoes Beer, Earth Eagle Brewings, Guinness, Harpoon and Hidden Cove Brewing.

In addition, there will be fare from Jack’s Abby Craft Lager, Kona Brewing Co, Moonlight Meadery LLC, Narragansett Beer, NBPT Brew Co., One Love Brewery, Peak Organic Brewing, Co., Rising Tide Brewing Co., Samuel Adams, Sea Dog Brewing, 1766 Brewing Co., 603 Brewery, Shipyard, Stoneface Brewing, Switchback Brewing Co., Throwback Brewery, Traveler Beer Co., Truly Spiked & Sparkling, Tuckerman Brewing Co. and 21st Amendment Brewery.
