High School Roundup: BG to meet Bedford in girls' tennis final

Derryfield School’s defense of its Division I girls’ tennis crown ended Friday night with a 7-2 loss to third-seeded Bishop Guertin in their semifinal match in Manchester.

The Cardinals will play top-seded Bedford in Wednesday’s championship match. That will be at 4 p.m. at Pinkerton Academy in Derry. The Bulldogs beat No. 4 Hanover 8-1 in their semifinal.

The Cardinals won five of six singles matches in the victory. Natalie Sheahy’s 9-8 win, 9-7 in the tie-breaker, over Ada Hu at No. 6 was the clincher. Claire Reynolds, Amy Maalouf, Hannah Gilbertson and Elizabeth Janiak also enjoyed singles wins. The Cardinals (14-1) also won two of three doubles matches. Miranda Shilling had the lone singles win for second-seeded Derryfield (14-2).

Boys’ lacrosse

John Stark 13, Bow 10: In Weare, Matt Bennetter notched four goals, Kayden Easter added 3 and an assist, and Jack Baumann had two for John Stark (6-9). Bow is 5-9.

Hollis/Brookline 14, Nashua North 7: In Nashua, Troy Bottari scored four goals, including the 100th of his career, for North. Chris LeRoux, Colin Manning and Stephen Vertiigans all had one goal each.

Portsmouth 10, Goffstown 9: In Goffstown, the Clippers (15-2) scored five goals in the fourth quarter to win. Cole Brams had four goals and two assists, and Ryan Groleau had four goals and one assist. Devin Young had three goals and an assist for Goffstown (11-5), Max Lajeunesse scored 3-0 scored three goals. Finn Grant made 10 saves for the Grizzlies.

Pinkerton 16, Exeter 7: Chad Teresky scored five goals and assisted on two others for the Astros (16-2). Ryan Auger had three goals and four assists, and Chris Valentine had a hat trick. Tom Sweeney scored two and assisted on two. Dayton Christensen and Spencer Clark led Exeter (13-4) with two goals apiece.

Timberlane 15, Alvirne 6: In Hudson, Matt Licata scored six goals and added an assist, and Jack Gray fired home five goals for the Owls, who will take a 7-8 record into the tournament. Seth Vaughn scored twice for Timberlane, and Cody Fleming (one goal, one assist) and Jack DiBurro (one goal, two assists) also contributed. Owls goalie Nate Taylor made four saves.

Hopkinton 11, Milford 6: In Milford, Gavin Urda scored three goals and had two assists, and Cam O’Shaughnessy chipped in with two goals for Milford.

Baseball

Goffstown 12, Souhegan 1 (5 inn.): In Amherst, Ethan Smith led the Grizzlies (15-3) with two hits and three RBIs. Justin Pinard and Derrick Steckowych each had two hits and two RBIs. Connor Hujsak posted a went all five innings with 10 strikeouts. Souhegan is 7-9.

Dover 10, Salem 9: In Dover, the Green Wave (10-8) scored two in the seventh to win it. John Cantwell went 4-for-4, homered twice and drove in five. Alex Schlapak went 2-for-4 and drove in two. Jake Clay got the win in relief. Jake Emerson went 3-for-5 and drove in three for Salem (10-8). Jake Palardy drove in three, and Trevor Demenico drove in two.

Londonderry 9, Nashua North 4: In Nashua, Reece Manor picked up the win with five solid innings, and he drove in two runs for the Lancers (12-8), who finished the regular season winning seven straight. Anthony Ferraro went 3-for-4 and drove in two, and Andy Ross drove in two. Pat McCarthy drove in two runs for North (9-11).

Bedford 7, Alvirne 6 (8 inn.): In Hudson, Avery Mosseau struck out Grady Hudson with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth to preserve the Bulldogs’ win. Geoff Mosseau had a two-run homer and a double for Bedford (19-1). Grant Lavigne, Peyton Murray and Trevor Anibal had RBI doubles. Hudson homered for the Broncos (5-13), who got an RBI single from Levi Griffin and a double from Zach Reddig.

Softball

Keene 3, Nashua South 0: In Keene, Alyssa Bartlett struck out 10 and walked two, allowing five hits to get the win for Keene (13-7). Emily LaBounty and Molly Harvey had two hits each. Emma Bartlett and Courtney Dunham drove in runs. Nashua South is 4-14.

Merrimack 8, Manchester Memorial 2: In Merrimack, Emma Chandler led Memorial (1-17) with two hits, including an RBI double to score Memorial’s first run. Merrimack is 4-14.

Londonderry 7, Nashua North 2: In Londonderry, Cassidy Raza went 4-for-4 and Emily Nelson cracked a three-run homer to lead the Lancers (18-1) in a tournament tuneup. Sarah Fawcett added two hits, including a solo homer for Londonderry. Winning pitcher Ila Brown went the distance and allowed six hits while fanning 11 and walking two. Nicole Perault had a pair of hits for North (5-13).

Dover 2, Salem 1 (9 inn.): In Salem, Lizzy Edmonds’ single scored Grace Hallett, who had reached on an error, to win it. Olivia Young’s RBI single scored Jeanine Turgeon in the third. Sydney Emerson tripled and scored on Becca Simons’ single in the second for Salem. Anna Cartelli got the win, pitching nine innings for Dover (5-13). Casey Grasso took the loss in relief of Brianna Marino for Salem (10-8).

Alvirne 12, Bedford 3: In Bedford, Liz Derosa went 4-for-5 with three doubles and four RBIs to lead the Broncos (11-7). Haley Peaslee went 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Alexis Charbonneau went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Kiara Chase got the win, allowing nine hits and striking out six. Bedford is 7-11.

Pelham 15, ConVal 3: In Peterborough, Abigail Provencal went the distance, allowing one earned run, three hits and striking out 10. She also had three hits, drove in three and scored three for the Pythons (8-8.) Skyy Ortega hit a three-run homer for Pelham which got three hits, two runs and two RBIs from Ashley Phillips and two hits, three RBIs and two runs from Madison Burke.

Girls’ lacrosse

Campbell 14, Belmont 10: In Litchfield, Jocelyn Theriault had seven goals and four assists, and Caitlin Newell had three goals and four assists for Campbell (5-9). Allie Dyac had a team-record 18 saves. Kate Stoncius, Autumn Thompson, Olivia Christino and Hannah Douglas each added a goal in the win.

Nashua South 13, Nashua North 10: In Nashua, Kirsten McIntire had five goals and an assist, Liz Harrington had three goals and two assists, Bailey Morin had two goals for South (8-8). Abbey Rowe made eight saves.

Souhegan 18, Concord 1: In Amherst, Taylor Clark and Clare Woodford led the Sabers (16-2) with three goals each as 11 players scored. Nicole Toler had the lone Concord (4-12) goal.

Boys’ volleyball

Bishop Guertin 3, John Stark 0: In Nashua, Connor Ogorchock led BG (10-6) with 13 kills and six digs. Jack Wizboski had an ace and 22 kills, and Nate Newton notched an ace and 12 digs. John Stark is 1-13.
