READING, Pa. — Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. homered in the same inning but the New Hampshire Fisher Cats couldn’t complete a three-game sweep after falling 4-3 to the Reading Fightin Phils on Thursday afternoon at FirstEnergy Stadium.
Austin Bossart had a two-run single in the second and Jiandido Tromp notched an RBI single in the fourth to give Reading a 3-0 lead.
Gunnar Heidt doubled to lead off the fifth for the Fisher Cats, then scored when Bichette’s second home run of the season cleared the left field wall. Later in the frame, Vlad Jr. lifted his ninth homer of the season to left-center field, tying the game 3-3.
Reading’s Damek Tomscha singled home Malquin Canelo in the bottom fifth for the go-ahead run.
New Hampshire had runners on base in the seventh, eighth and ninth but failed to score. Vlad Jr. and Bichette both finished the day with two hits.
Josh DeGraff (0-1) took the loss, allowing seven hits and four runs in 5 1/3 innings. Auston Davis (1-1) got the win in relief for Reading.
The Fisher Cats return to Northeast Delta Dental Stadium tonight to begin a four-game series with the Hartford Yard Goats.
