Hampton firefighters extinguish motel fire

February 18. 2018 8:54PM

HAMPTON — Firefighters were called to a fire at a motel early Sunday and contained the blaze within half an hour.

Chief Jameson Ayotte of the Hampton Fire Department said the call to the Emerald Isle Motel at 351 Winnacunnet Road came around 1:40 a.m. Sunday.

Crews encountered heavy smoke coming from the room, where a window breached shortly after firefighters arrived. The fire was contained within about half an hour and there were no injuries, Ayotte said.

“They were able to hit it and knock it down real quick,” Ayotte said.

The person renting the room was at work at the time, Ayotte said.

The cause remained under investigation, but Ayotte said it did not appear to be suspicious.
