Snowmobiler thrown from machine in Pittsburg, taken to local hospital

February 04. 2018 11:20AM

PITTSBURG — A Vermont snowmobiler was hurt Saturday afternoon when he was thrown from his machine after it slid sideways, hit a shoulder and rolled over, state conservation officials said.

Philip Poirier II, 48, of West Topsham, needed to be transported to Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital for treatment of injuries, according to New Hampshire Fish and Game Department. The accident took place about 2:30 p.m. on the Waterfall Brook Road; Poirier lost control when he tried to brake while descending from a scenic view.

One riding partner had to travel a couple of miles to make a 911 call. When rescue workers found him on Smith Brook Road, he was riding a snowmobile that was being towed.

Fish and Game said it appears that unreasonable speed was the primary reason for the crash.
