Laconia man pleads guilty to 7 bank robberies

CONCORD — A Laconia man pleaded guilty in federal court Thursday to the robberies of seven banks in late 2016 and early 2017.

Acting U.S. Attorney John J. Farley said Chaka Meredith, 42, pleaded guilty to:

• The Dec. 29, 2016, robbery of a Bank of America branch location in Boston, Mass.;

• The Jan. 3, 2017, robbery of an East Boston Savings Bank branch location in Jamaica Plain, Mass.;

• The Jan. 11, 2017 robbery of a Meredith Village Savings Bank branch location in Laconia;

• The Jan. 17, 2017, robbery of a Santander Bank branch location in Lawrence, Mass.;

• The Jan. 24, 2017, robbery of a TD Bank branch location in Lawrence, Mass.;

• The Jan. 25, 2017, robbery of a Lowell Five Cent Savings Bank branch location in Pepperell, Mass.;

• The Jan. 30, 2017, robbery of a Santander Bank branch location in Plaistow.

Meredith has been in custody since his arrest by the Lawrence, Mass., police on Feb. 1, 2017.

According to Farley, Meredith was originally indicted for a robbery in Plaistow last March. His guilty plea on Thursday resolved all of his charges in both Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

Meredith is scheduled to be sentenced on May 9.
