Three events scheduled for MLK Jr. Day in Manchester

MANCHESTER — Three events are taking place next Monday in Manchester to commemorate the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

• The 36th annual Martin Luther King Day Community Celebration, 2 p.m. Monday at St. George Greek Orthodox Church. The program includes a light meal, writing contest winners, presentation of the Vanessa Johnson Award, and a keynote speech by the Rev. Mariama White-Hammond, ecological justice minster at Bethel AME Church in Boston. See www.mlknh.org.

• The 16th “Keeping The Dream Alive” Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dinner Celebration. 6 p.m. Radisson Hotel. Keynote speaker will be Melanie Joly, Canada’s minister of Canadian Heritage. See ncdac.org.

• City Year “Building Our Beloved Community” rally, volunteer fair and workshop session. 9 a.m. to noon, Monday at the YWCA. Activities include a Currier museum art project and community service projects. Workshop topics include: active bystander training; microaggression awareness; unpacking whiteness; gender identity and gender spectrum.
