CLAREMONT — The Claremont First Night celebration will be spread out throughout the city at various locations with something for everyone.
First Night, now in its fourth year, kicks off Sunday at 6 p.m. It will feature fireworks, carnival games, tubing, wagon rides and live performances.
“We’re excited to be doing this again. It’s a partnership with the Sugar River Rotary Club,” said Mark Brislin, Claremont’s Parks and Recreation director.
Brislin said the community center started the event four years ago and it has just grown in size and popularity each year.
“It’s growing every year, and the buzz is getting out there,” Brislin said.
For a $1 donation, attendees will be given a button that will get them into all events, he said.
Attendees can go tubing or skiing at Arrowhead, which is always the location for the 10 p.m. fireworks display, which will be shown live on CCTV channel 8.
There will be horse-drawn wagon rides taking people back and forth from Arrowhead to the Claremont Community Center. The community center is hosting pool and gym games, carnival games and performances throughout the evening up until 10 p.m.
The Claremont Opera House is presenting scenes from World Under Wonder’s production of The Tempest throughout the night — shows will be at 6, 7, 8 and 9 p.m.
A shuttle bus between Broad Street Park and the community center will run from 6 to 10:45 p.m.
Meyer Maple Lanes is offering bowling, a live DJ and a photo booth until midnight. St. Mary’s Church will present carols with St. Mary’s Choir from 6:45 to 8 p.m. And the Family Fun Zone will operate a bounce house from 6 to 9 p.m.
Based on the predicted weather, Brislin said organizers are anticipating most people to join in the indoor activities to avoid the cold.
“We’re expecting a pretty good crowd at the inside activities,” he said. “We saw over 1,000 people just at the community center last year.”
