Enjoy a sweet treat of an art exhibit

“Thar She Blows,” created by Meaghan Kaste, Mark Lombardi and Kat Antoniolo, is a whimsical nod to the landmark whale sign that was restored and returned to the old Yokens restaurant site on Lafayette Road in Portsmouth. 

PORTSMOUTH — In the 27th annual Gingerbread House Exhibit at Discover Portsmouth, Bobby Menard, chef at the Hilton Garden Inn downtown, got blue-ribbon attention from the panel of judges for his gingerbread version of the historic Moffatt-Ladd House.

Visitors got their say in a handful of People’s Choice Awards.

Best in show went to “Golden Christmas” by Joanne Nichols; most creative went to “The St. Nicholas” by Aida DeWeese and Crew; most Seacoast spirit went to “The Ice House” by Libby Giordano; and best youth/youth group went to “The Winter Lighthouse” by Brett Starr.

Entries from 100 bakers are on view today, Friday and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Discover Portsmouth, located at10 Middle St. For information, call 436-8433 or visit portsmouthHistory.org.
