Renovations eyed for Hooksett police station

HOOKSETT — Proposed changes to the town’s police station will go before voters at the upcoming town meeting.

The first phase of the project would be to move the dispatch center to the front area of the building from the back of the station. Police Chief Janet Bouchard said this would improve customer service for those coming into the station after reception closes for the day.

Renovations would also be made to both the men’s and women’s locker rooms to solve space issues, upgrade those areas and accommodate future growth, Bouchard said.

The last phase would be to renovate the booking area, storage spaces and the patrol room. These would provide staff with more space and increase safety, Bouchard said.

The work doesn’t call for putting any additions onto the 20-year-old building, but rather reconfiguring what’s inside, according to Bouchard.

Bouchard gave a presentation to the town council about the project on Wednesday.

The cost of the project is expected to be $752,500. A 10-year bond will pay for the project.

If approved, an additional $10,000 would be raised to cover the issuance fee of the bond and interest.

Voters will weigh in on the proposal for the during the upcoming town meeting. It’s expected to have an annual tax rate impact of $0.05.
