SAU 15 superintendent search team hopes for interviews soon

HOOKSETT — Interviews for the next top educator in three area towns are expected to start in the next couple of weeks.

Out of the handful of applicants who are vying for the superintendent position of SAU 15 so far, the hope is to have that narrowed down to just two sometime after the middle of the month, according to Alan Whatley.

Whatley, a member of the Hooksett School Board, is one of the members of the Transition Team, which has been charged with handling the search for the new superintendent.

Applications will be accepted until Friday.

The goal is to have someone chosen by July 2018.

The candidate will be responsible for about 2,300 students in the three towns that make up the school administrative unit: Auburn, Candia and Hooksett.

The towns, which have five schools in all, have students from kindergarten to eighth grade. Each town sends students to neighboring communities for high school.

The operating budget for all of the towns is about $57 million, according to the job posting.

Superintendent Dr. Charles “Phil” Littlefield has served as head of the district for more than half a decade. He’s been hinting at retirement for the last couple of years, but efforts to start the search process started to ramp up this past year.

A transition team, which was created last year, met on Oct. 16 to discuss a game plan for hiring a new superintendent. The group consists of representatives from the Auburn, Candia and Hooksett school boards.
