Manchester South, West Side Little Leagues are merging

November 24. 2017 10:25PM

Manchester South and Manchester West Side Little League have announced a merger that will now become one league under the new name Manchester Little League. The move is effective immediately.

Little League Baseball has officially approved the merger of the groups, according to league president Tim Pike.

“This powerful combination of two storied and historic leagues is a positive move for the cause of baseball and youth sports in Manchester,” said Pike.

Said Sally Dreckmann, administrator of New Hampshire District I Little League: “It’s going to be a great partnership between these two city leagues and the dedicated volunteers which will result in a positive environment for our kids to play and to continue to promote Little League Baseball in the city and the spirit of what Little League is about.”

According to a news release provided by the league, Manchester Little League will provide families with an enhanced baseball experience, a dynamic community, increased baseball expertise, a youth-sports “home” within the new league’s borders and a safe, affordable and competitive environment that will align with Little League Baseball’s core values of leadership, character, courage and loyalty in all that participate, including the adult volunteers.

“This merger is an exciting time for Little League Baseball as it will bring families, volunteers, coaches and kids together from two leagues to create the best possible experience for Little League Baseball for our kids,” said John Ryan, immediate past president of West Side Little League.

Manchester South and West Side are no strangers to turning out great athletes over time. South was established in 1954 and featured Steve Balboni who played for the Yankees, Royals and Mariners, and the late Mike Flanagan, who played for the Orioles and Blue Jays.

“I am very excited for this merger as Manchester has a storied history in Little League Baseball and it’s fantastic that these two strong leagues have come together to continue the Little League tradition in Manchester,” said Kim Roy, immediate past president of South Little League.

The new Manchester Little League will, for the most part, cover the same area served by West Side and South as in the past.

Manchester Little League’s new website is www.manchesternhlittleleague.com and will soon have up-to-date information on boundaries, registration, costs and volunteer opportunities. You can also log onto their Facebook page under Manchester NH Little League.
