NH College Basketball: Florida holds off determined UNH

The University of New Hampshire men’s basketball team threw a serious scare into No. 8 Florida on Sunday night.

The Wildcats were within three points of the Gators with two minutes to play before falling, 70-63, in Gainesville, Fla.

Tanner Leissner’s jumper with two minutes left made it 66-63, but the Wildcats were held scoreless the rest of the way.

The game was tied, 32-32, at halftime.

Leissner finished with 23 points for the Wildcats (1-2), who return home to face American on Tuesday night at Lundholm Gym in Durham.

PSU women fall

The Plymouth State University women’s basketball team suffered its first loss of the season, 67-42, to the University of New England on Sunday in the championship game of the Cardinal Classic in Plattsburgh, N.Y.

Londonderry’s Jess Conant led the Panthers (2-1) with 13 points. PSU hosts Castleton University on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
