Salem, Winnacunnet stay tied at top of Power Poll

Staff report
October 23. 2017 9:23PM

Another week, another deadlock at the top.

For the fourth straight voting period, unbeatens Salem and Winnacunnet of Hampton are tied atop the New Hampshire Union Leader High School Football Power Poll. Each team once again received three first-place votes after another successful weekend. Salem drubbed Nashua North, 60-14, and Winnacunnet pulled away in the second half to top a playoff-hungry Manchester Central club, 42-21.

Likewise, the top of the chart remained relatively unchanged, as the rich continue to get richer. In fact, the top eight teams have a combined six losses and four of those eight clubs now carry significant win streaks.

Among the movers and shakers is No. 8 Nashua South, which fell to Salem and No. 5 Pinkerton of Derry in its first two games and hasn’t been beaten since. South was No. 10 two weeks ago and No. 9 last week.

Division III Campbell of Litchfield remains in the poll. The Cougars were tied for 10th last week but now hold that spot by themselves.
