Keene police net six on drug-related charges

KEENE - Five city residents and a Newport woman were arrested Thursday on a variety of drug charges, police said Friday.

Edward Lower, 56, of West Street, who police said had been under investigation during October, is charged with a felony count of sale of a controlled drug. Police allege Lower sold heroin during police-controlled purchases. He was held in the Cheshire County jail pending arraignment Friday.

Georgette Russell, 50, who police said lives at the same West Street residence as Lower, also was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled drug. She was released on personal recognizance bail and is to be arraigned in Cheshire Superior Court Nov. 2, police said.

During the evening, police arrested Joseph Machowski, 29, of Green Street, who was charged with a felony count of conspiracy to purchase a controlled drug. He was held in lieu of bail in the Cheshire County jail and was scheduled for arraignment Friday in Cheshire Superior Court.

Margaret Carolan, 27, no fixed address in Keene, was charged with a felony count of conspiracy to purchase a controlled drug. She was held in the Cheshire County jail lieu of bail on a probation detention order and was to be arraigned Friday in Cheshire Superior Court.

Schuyler Cumback, 28, of Chestnut Street in Newport, was charged with conspiracy to purchase a controlled drug. She was released on personal recognizance and was scheduled for arraignment Nov. 2 in Cheshire Superior Court, police said.

Dawn Ward, 52, of no fixed address in Keene, who police said had been under investigation during the past six months, was arrested as she allegedly delivered drugs to an Elm Street residence, police said. Ward was charged with felony counts of conspiracy to sell controlled drugs, possession of suspected heroin with intent to distribute and possession of suspected crack cocaine with intent to distribute, police said.

Ward was held in lieu of bail in the Cheshire County jail and was to be arraigned Friday in Cheshire Superior Court.
