LINCOLN — A 67-year-old Alton man died after collapsing while hiking on the Fishin’ Jimmy trail early Wednesday evening, Fish and Game officials said.

Conservation officers were called about 5:15 p.m. and were told Stephen Barsanti, who was hiking with his wife, collapsed and was unconscious on the trail about a half mile from the AMC Lonesome Lake Hut, according to a release.

Barsanti’s wife performed CPR and was helped by another couple hiking the trail, one of whom assisted with CPR and the other who went to the Lonesome Lake Hut for help, the release said.

AMC rescuers hiked to Barsanti’s location and also assisted with CPR, but he never regained consciousness and died on the trail, officials said.
