PORTSMOUTH — The Pastel Society of New Hampshire presents “It’s Pastel,” its ninth annual juried exhibition, at the Portsmouth Historical Society’s Academy Gallery at Discover Portsmouth, 10 Middle St.

The show, to feature more than 80 paintings from across the country, will open Saturday and run through Nov. 25.

“A whole room full of pastel paintings really packs a punch,” said Keith Demance, who is chairing the show. “Portraits, landscapes, still life — pastel is a terrific medium for almost any kind of subject. Seeing what all these talented artists put on view is truly amazing.”

Juror Kim Lordier chose the paintings from among hundreds of artist submissions. Juror of Awards Christine Ivers will be granting $6,000 in prizes at the opening reception and awards ceremony from 5 to 7 p.m, Saturday. Admission is free.
